Haforld is a world of contrasts. This is because the rotation of the planet is synchronized to the orbit around the sun. Thus, it always keeps the same face toward the light and heat. One side of the planet gets as hot as 350 degrees, while the opposite side of this moon sees temperatures below -30 degrees. Between these two extremes there is a narrow band that is temperate. Because of the elliptical orbit of the moon, the area of "twilight" that is the most readily inhabitable will fluctuate somewhat, but this is slight enough to provide little more than seasons of heat and cold on a yearly basis.

The entire planet is covered with a thick atmosphere thanks to the creation of the Air Grass. The hot side of the planet has poisonous gasses mixed with the healthy ones. While these gasses may stray into the inhabited area, they are mostly confined to the sun side. This makes traveling on the hot side very dangerous.

The temperate area is about 900 miles across and circles this world. Even within this narrow band of moderate temperature the conditions vary wildly.

The basic means of Terra-forming this world was the creation of the Air Grasses. These are plants that cover the temperate zone almost completely. They need only moisture and a small amount of minerals to survive. These plants were responsible for "fixing" the nitrogen that once formed the main part of the atmosphere into the food chain. The nitrogen that they absorb is exchanged for oxygen. This is similar to the process of normal plants that exchange carbon dioxide. In some areas the Air Plants are being replaced with normal plants, but this process is slow and has little presence outside the most civilized areas. There is nothing unusual to the appearance of the special grass, except that it is iron gray.

From space, the planet appears to have 3 distinct areas of different colors. There is the dark side, which from a distance always appears to be perfectly black. If it is approached closely, some features of the dark side become visible. In general, it is covered with craters which are more rounded than the craters found on airless worlds due to erosion. It is not unusual for clouds from the bright side to partially obscure areas just around the twilight areas. They never extend far into the dark area because the coluds quickl freeze, causing hale storms of great violence.

The most noticable feature of the dark side of Halforld is a gigantic dome about 2 miles across. This is the Dark Dome. It is a very mysterious place. It is known to be inhabited, but the nature of these inhabitants is unknown. It is suspected that inside this dome is a city sustained completely by magic. Folk lore has it that it was created before the planet was Terraformed, and at one time was a retreat for a ultra powerful group of mages who were exiled from Greld. The dome is made of the native rock of Halforld which was melted, and while molten induced to form this bubble. It is known by the Wildspace cognisenti to be off limits. It has lethal devices of protection, but the details of this a not generally known. All that is known is that the area around the dome is littered with ship wrecks.

The only other unusual feature of the dark side is an abandoned castle. It is not large and can not be seen unless searched for. It is located 20 mi. from the dark edge of the temperate circle and rests exactly on the equator. Nothing of why this castle exists is known, and it has not been investigated.

From space, the bright side reveales a circular band running around the twilight zone that is 135 miles wide. This band is featurlessly grey. This is the Air Grass that provide the atmosphere necessary to sustain life. Although this area is inhabited, they are not visible until the ship enters the atmosphere. Numberous small villages are located in the grass.

The grass thins over an area of 40 miles toward the center of the bright area. The center of the bright area is very baren and although the mantle of air softens the appearance, craters are still visible from space. These craters are much whiter than the Air grass.

From the planet, the moon appears to be a eye with a grey iris and a whiteish pupil. Sometimes swirling clouds are visible over the temperate zone and rarely extending into the bright area, makeing a white on white montage.
