Weldon is culturally most closely aligned with the European continent on Earth. There are cultures there that represent all major cultures in Europe. These are:

Of course, my cultures are only modled after my idea of what these cultures consist of.

Within each of these provinces are several small nations. Each has its king and court, although some are too small to actually have a perceptable effect on continental politics. But with a few exceptions, the provincial kingdoms are guided and ruled by some sort of council who’s primary job is to see that the kingdoms in their province obey the orders of the Emperor, but more importantly they act as a cultural and economic booster. They might recommend that a specific other province be shunned by all or they might declare a specific religion anamatha for the province. In all but Kestak, the provincial head is elected once per 10 years by a council of kings. This person must then immediatly report to the Emperor for investiture and examination. The Emperor may reject a provincial candidate, but this has only happened on 3 occasions, and a war between the province and the Emperor resulted on 2 of those occasions.

There is an emperor who’s power now is just a left over from the Black Millenium. His only responsablity is to prevent warfare between the kingdoms (he has no army to threaten them with) and to keep some roads open (he chooses to keep only certain ones open). The Emperors castle is in the most heavily fortified and stocked castle on the continent. It is in the out of the way town of Suppixton.

The other kings do all the rest of the adminesteration of justice (they may appeal to the emperor, but he only hears cases one month per year, just after the new year. The poor weather cuts down on the number of cases he has to hear. Only cases involving persons not native to a specific kingdom will be heard. If someone from another kingdom is caught murdering somewhere, he may demand to be heard by the Emperor. In practice, only those with political connections enough or a solicitor clever enough will have an appeal option with the Emperor. Besides that, the bulk of prisioners actually arriving at their appointment with the Emperor actually arrive. Unless the Emperor sends an escort, it is common for the prisioner to be given little food, shelter, and care during the journey. The Emperor seldom looks into cases where the prisioner dies of exposure on the way to their appointment.
