Alternate Starts to the New West
Getting There:
Beourn will be the key to begining of this adventure.
As all of his body parts were placed on one of the planets in the SOS,
it will be necessary to have the part moved to Deadlands by one of the
Gods who are interested in stopping his rise to godhood. This is easy
enough, but getting the party there is a problem.
The party follows Beourn to the next body part (the arms) located on
Selune the moon of Kopeta. When they arrive there, Beourn detects the
body part but only very faintly. We will be able to sense it's presense
only occasionally. This will be enough to giv e Beourn the direction of
the body parts location, but will still allow them to get lost when
they enter an area where the direction can not be determined.
It's important to NOT have the wildspace ship take them to Selune. This
can be avoided by introducing dead magic areas. The last time the party
encountered magic dead areas in the wild, they were almost stranded
when the withdrawl of magic caused the ship to crash. Also, creating
lots of magic dead areas will "even the odds" a bit with the powerful
party and the relativley weak wild creatures they will encounter.
The party will fight their way across the planet following the sporadic
eminations Beourn senses. Unfortunatly, when they get to the city of
the Giants where Beourn says the arms are located, they find only the
spot where the arms used to be. The Giants are unaware that the arms
they eused to guard have been taken to the Deadlands and a copy of them
substatuted by the god who moved them (need to figure out which one did
it!).
Beourn will become enraged and use a summon spell to call upon one of
the servents of the gods who owes him a favor. Beourn forces the
demi-god to take them to the place where the arms have been taken. The
servant will warn Beourn that this service will be the last time he
will help Beourn. Beourn in his rage says he knows this and doesn't
care. Don't let the party know this is potentially a one-way trip.
The servant will warn Beourn that it is not possible for it to follow
them to this place and that he can not be accurate in his transport to
where the arms now lie. Beourn doesn't care about this either. He says
"Take us all there!". The servant obliges and the party feels like a 10
ton rock has just been dropped on them. They pass out.
